62-year-old motorcyclist fatally struck by SUV on Big Pine Key

BIG PINE KEY, FL – An SUV struck and killed a motorcyclist on Tuesday evening as he was waiting to turn into a shopping center on Big Pine Key.

According to a report by the Miami Herald, the motorcyclist pulled into the center turn lane on US-1 at the Big Pine Key Shopping Center at about 6:35 p.m. Police say the driver of a 2018 Toyota SUV turned out of the Big Pine Academy School, not seeing the man, and collided with the motorcycle’s right side.

The rider, an unidentified 62-year-old man, was airlifted to a hospital in Kendall, where he succumbed to his injuries later on Tuesday night.

No charges have been filed against the 32-year-old driver of the SUV. However, an investigation is still underway.
