March 13, 2023

CAPE CORAL, FL – A 58-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon after a vehicle struck him at a busy Cape Coral intersection, reports WINK News.

The incident happened around noon at the intersection of Old Burnt Store Road South and Southwest 1st Street, which is between Embers Parkway West and Ceitus Parkway.

The investigation thus far indicates that a southbound 2023 Hyundai Kona struck a northbound 2007 Yamaha XVS11M motorcycle while attempting to turn left onto Southwest 1st Street.

The force of the collision threw the motorcyclist from his bike, and he died at the scene of the accident. Authorities identified the victim as Ion Dumitru.

The 70-year-old female driver of the Hyundai sustained non-critical injuries, for which she went to the hospital.

A full investigation is underway.
